Getting Started
What is Just Pick 1?
Just Pick 1 helps groups make decisions together. Instead of arguing over dozens of options, your group builds a shared list, narrows it down through simple voting, and sees which choices have the most agreement.
What kinds of decisions can I use it for?
You can use Just Pick 1 for almost any group decision, including movies and TV shows, restaurants and bars, books, gifts, board or card games, travel destinations, and anything else your group is trying to choose between.
How does a room work?
Someone creates a room and shares the room code or room link with the group. Participants join the room, add possible choices, vote on categories if that step is enabled, and then vote on the final options. The app ranks the final choices by group agreement.
Do I need to download anything?
No. Just Pick 1 works directly in your browser on phones, tablets, and computers.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The site is designed to work on both desktop and mobile devices.
Joining & Accounts
Do I need an account?
Not always. Some rooms allow anyone to join with just a name. Other rooms may require Google or Apple sign-in if the host enables authentication.
Why am I being asked to sign in?
The room host may require sign-in to limit the room to intended participants, reduce duplicate participants, or make it easier for people to rejoin later.
Why do some rooms require Google or Apple sign-in?
Authentication helps keep rooms more organized and secure. It also helps preserve participant identity when rejoining a room later.
What is a room code?
A room code is the short code used to join a specific decision room. The host can share either the code or a direct room link.
Can I rejoin a room later?
Yes. Use the same room code or room link. If the room requires sign-in, use the same sign-in method you used before.
Will other people see my email address?
No. Other participants do not see your email address through the app.
Adding Choices
How do I add something to the list?
During the list-building phase, enter the name of the option and its category, then submit it to the room. For example, a movie room might use The Matrix as the option and Sci-Fi as the category, while a restaurant room might use Joe's Pizza as the option and Pizza as the category.
What should I put in the category field?
Categories help group similar options together. For movies and TV shows, this might be a genre. For restaurants, this might be a cuisine or type of food. For books, it might be a genre. For travel, it might be a region or trip type.
Can I edit or delete something I added?
Usually yes. During the list-building phase, you can update or remove your own submissions.
Can two people add the same choice?
Yes, although the app may suggest existing categories or entries to help reduce duplicates.
Can I link a movie or TV show to more information?
Yes. Movie and TV rooms can include links to TMDb data such as descriptions and streaming availability.
Voting & Results
Do I have to vote for only one choice?
No. You should select every option you would genuinely be willing to choose. The goal is to find the strongest shared agreement across the group.
How does category voting work?
Participants select the categories they are open to. Categories supported by a majority of submitted voters move forward.
Why did some choices disappear after category voting?
Choices tied to categories that did not receive majority support are removed before final option voting.
How does option voting work?
Participants select every remaining option they are open to. Results are ranked by percentage of agreement.
How are results calculated?
Results are based on the people who submitted votes in that stage. Options are ranked by the percentage of voters who selected them.
What does majority mean?
A majority means more than half of the people who submitted votes in that stage.
Why are results shown as percentages?
Percentages help show how much agreement each option received from the group.
What happens if there is a tie?
Tied options may appear together near the top of the results.
Host Controls
Who is the host?
The host is the person who created the room.
What can the host do?
Hosts can control room settings, move the room between phases, enable or disable category voting, manage authentication requirements, and delete the room.
How does the host move the room to the next phase?
The host uses the room controls to move from list building to category voting if enabled, then to option voting, and finally to results.
Can the host skip category voting?
Yes. Hosts can disable category voting and move directly from building the list to option voting.
Can the host delete a room?
Yes. Hosts can permanently delete rooms they created.
What happens when a host deletes a room?
Deleting a room permanently removes the room itself, participant records, options and categories, votes, and results. This cannot be undone.
Troubleshooting & Support
I lost my room code. What should I do?
Ask the host or another participant to resend the room code or room link.
The room code is not working. What should I check?
Make sure the code was entered correctly, the room has not been deleted, and you are using the correct link or sign-in method.
I signed in but do not see the room I expected. What should I do?
Try reopening the original room link or confirming the room code with the host. If the room requires authentication, make sure you signed in with the same account used previously.
The page did not update right away. What should I do?
Try refreshing the page. If the issue continues, contact support with details about what happened.
The movie or TV search is not finding the title I want. What should I do?
Try searching with the release year, alternate spellings, or the original title. Some very new, obscure, or regional titles may not appear immediately. You can also manually type in a movie or TV show title without linking it to TMDb. Manually entered titles will not include linked descriptions or streaming availability.
